Six budding authors from Shore Preparatory School have had their first books published, under the guidance of renowned children’s author and mentor, Tim Harris.

The boys wrote their books as part of a High Potential Learning writing project that was conceived with a clear vision – to provide a nurturing space where some of our best young writers could explore their creativity and refine their writing skills under the mentorship of an accomplished author.

Beyond the aim of developing their writing abilities, the year-long project encouraged higher-order thinking, and promoted creativity, critical analysis, and problem-solving.

By working closely with Tim as a mentor, the students gained first-hand exposure to the writing process, its nuances, and the discipline required to excel in the literary world.

The boys were selected as they have shown keen interest in writing but have also been performing above expectations for their grade.

The books are being sold on a preorder with 100% of the sales going to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. https://www.indigenousliteracyfoundation.org.au/. The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) is a national charity working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote Communities across Australia.

Ms Alexandra Geersen, High Potential Learning Teacher at Shore Preparatory School 3-6, said of the programme, “We were looking for a way to nurture and extend the boys beyond the classroom and a mentor programme seemed like a wonderful way to foster the emerging talents we had observed in the classroom over several years.”

See below for a copy of the book covers and blurbs and as seen in The Wentworth Courier.
