Our Early Learning Centre (ELC) offers a two-year learning course for boys and girls between the ages of three and five. Children are enrolled in one of three programmes – the 2-day programme, which runs on Thursdays and Fridays; the 3-day programme, which runs on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays; or the 5-day programme, which runs every weekday.

The centre is located on our picturesque Northbridge Campus behind Shore’s expansive playing fields and is adjacent to our Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 classrooms.

This purpose-built campus was completed in 2003 and designed to complement the delightful tree-lined playing areas and open spaces of Shore’s Northbridge site. It’s state of the art design maximises flexibility for both group and individual learning experiences.

Philosophy and Learning

Based on the Early Years Learning Framework, the Centre has developed a curriculum informed by the children’s interests and abilities.

Through play-based experiences, the children have the opportunity to develop as individuals and learn about the world in which they live. Closely aligned with our Christian values, the Centre offers a supportive and educational environment that harnesses the natural curiosity of children and stimulates a love of learning.

Wellbeing and Identity

At this stage of a child’s education, we seek to stimulate the curiosity and confidence that will encourage a lifelong desire to learn.

For them to become active and happy participants in society, children must develop necessary social and self-help skills.

A critical part of this process is exposure to a wide variety of experiences and stimuli that encourage them to develop their sense of identity.

Shared Facilities

As part of preparing the children for the transition to the more formal education of Kindergarten, the children share the wonderful facilities of the Northbridge campus.

Boys and girls participate in a weekly Chapel service, enjoy Library visits and can benefit from the weekly Music programme.

Music Tuition

Children in their final year of the ELC have the opportunity to begin learning a musical instrument privately. The options are violin, viola, cello, and piano at this stage.

Lessons are scheduled during the School day and last for 15 minutes with one lesson a week during term-time.

Parental Partnership

In the Early Learning Centre, we establish an important partnership between the School and parents and carers. This continues in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2. Families are invited to attend weekly assemblies, be involved in various learning activities, and participate in events throughout the year. This collaboration is an ongoing feature of a Shore education and will provide invaluable support to students in later years as the curriculum becomes more complex.
