Shore Preparatory School at Northbridge offers a unique experience for boys and girls during their first three years of formal schooling.

It is located on our picturesque Northbridge campus and adjacent to our Early Learning Centre. Completed in 2003, its modern design creates maximum flexibility for individual and group activities. The purpose-built classrooms provide comfortable and well-lit environments that are conducive to learning with ample space and access to technology. In addition, there are dedicated areas for the Library, Music, Visual Art, IT, Physical Education and Dance.

The buildings blend into Northbridge’s delightful open spaces and combine indoor and outdoor learning areas.

Philosophy and Programme

Our programme is based on the belief that childhood is a uniquely valuable stage of life, and our dedicated staff aim to develop each child’s natural talents within an educational environment aligned with our Christian values.

Young children bring a natural sense of curiosity to learning. A play-based approach, along with explicit instruction underpins the teaching pedagogy in Kindergarten to Year 2.

The programme for five- to eight-year-olds has been designed to stimulate the children in a wide range of areas of their education – Music, Visual Arts, Information Technology, Physical Education, Dance and Christian Education are all taught in world-class facilities.

There are two classes in every grade level, each supported by specialist teachers, a Learning Enrichment team and a School Counsellor.

Care and Wellbeing

The care, happiness and safety of your child is our primary concern. Shore’s pastoral programmes are dedicated to the wellbeing of all members of the School community.

On a daily basis, we seek to foster resilience, promote the positive attitudes and emotions that lead to healthy relationships and instil a desire to contribute to the wellbeing of others.

Literacy and Numeracy

In Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2, we place great emphasis on developing foundational skills in literacy and numeracy.

Our Library, which has been specially designed for young children, is strategically placed in the centre of the school, a design decision emblematic of the important part reading plays in a child’s education.

A strong focus on building mathematical fluency, fundamental numeracy skills and mathematical reasoning lays a firm foundation for children in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2.

Increasingly, technology is playing a significant role in teaching methods and so every classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard and digital devices to assist learning activities.

Music

Children in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 enjoy weekly music lessons and choir. Every Year 2 student learns a string instrument as part of the class music programme. Students also have the opportunity to learn an instrument privately at the Northbridge campus. Private lessons take place during the School day and are 30 minutes long. Instruments offered include piano, violin, viola and cello.

Parental Partnership

In the Early Learning Centre, we establish an important partnership between the School and parents and carers. This continues in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2.

We encourage families to provide practical support for various learning activities in the School. This collaboration is an ongoing feature of a Shore education and will provide invaluable support to students in later years as the curriculum becomes more advanced.
