Congratulations to the Shore ‘Reapers’ team who participated in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition, on 11-13 March at Sydney Olympic Park. The robotics competition brings together high school students to build robots that perform in a competitive environment against teams from all over the world. The teams have a six week period to build game playing robots that weigh up to 60 kg. Teams are guided by solid principles of teamwork, graciousness, cooperation, camaraderie and professionalism.
There was an amazing atmosphere at the competition and Shore performed spectacularly well given our ‘rookie’ status. James Gibbs, Shore Robotics Mentor commented: “Our robot was particularly good at one task – placing boxes in the elevated ‘Scale’- that enabled us to participate in many winning alliances. This carried our position forward in the rankings during the qualification rounds and through to the semi-finals, finishing equal third at the end of the competition. “
