Mrs Margaret Travers You are here:HomeCommunityOld Boys' UnionNews It is with deep sadness that I advise of the passing of the School’s most loved elder stateswoman Margaret Travers with the Travers family advising the School that Margaret died in the early hours of Thursday morning after a short illness. Margaret was 97. A memorial Service will be held in the Shore Chapel next Friday 5 April 2019 commencing at 2:00pm. Limited parking will be available on the School Oval and afternoon tea will be served on the Chapel Lawn after the service. A private Cremation will take place earlier in the day. Margaret Emily Travers (nee Marr) attended Abbotsleigh School at Wahroonga. In 1942 she married Basil Holmes (Jika) Travers in the Shore Chapel. Jika was appointed the School’s 5th Headmaster in 1959. They had three children Susan, Christine and Philippa. Following Jika’s death in 1998 Margaret was a regular visitor to the School, attending a wide variety of events such as the American Tea Chapel Services and the Opening of Graythwaite. Her last public appearance was in July 2017 at Northbridge where she joined Margaret Colebrook OAM in a Mitre Club Tribute luncheon held in their honour. Margaret Travers will be greatly missed. She will be remembered with great affection. Communique from the OBU Community Relations Manager Rick Clive (68).
