GPS Athletics

The GPS Athletics Carnival at the end of last term was a great day for Shore with many standout performances. Ruairidh MacDonald competed in the open 3000m and won this event in a time of 8:47 sec, only 4 seconds off his own school record. Even after this, he was also able to win the Under 16 1500m. Dimitri Bantli won the Under 13 hurdles (having never competed in it before this season) and the long jump breaking the school record. Matthew Clifford ran a determined race, coming from last position after the first 200m to slowly over take the rest of the field over the next 600m to finish 2nd. Nick Lloyd in the Under 16s High Jump managed to jump 1.76m, a PB by 8cm, which gave him 3rd place.

Steven Eaton ran in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and the 4x100m where he broke the 200m, 800m and 4x100m School Record and also broke the GPS Record in the Under 13 400m. The race of the day was the Under 17 800m Championship race. Andrew Selosse (who came 5th last year in the 800m in a time of 2:09) ran with great determination while three competitors swapped the lead many times. Down the final straight, Andrew ran down the other competitors to dive over the line and win by 0.01 sec in a time of 1.55.23 sec, a new GPS Record.

The following School and GPS Records were set on the day:

U13 200m 24.70 sec Stephen Eaton
U13 800m 2:08.48 sec Stephen Eaton
U13 400m 54.68 sec Stephen Eaton (GPS Record)

U16 100m Hurdles 14.05 sec Richard Connelly
U17 800m 1.55.23 sec Andrew Selosse (GPS record)

Overall Shore came 4th in the Seniors and 5th in the Juniors, which is a big improvement from last year’s 6th and 7th respectively. Since the GPS Carnival, two boys have attended the NSW All Schools Competition with Andrew Selosse winning the U17 2000m Steeplechase and Stephen Eaton winning the U13 400m in 53.65 sec (a new School Record). These boys have been selected for the Nationals in the first weekend of December in Melbourne.

Our Senior team has also been selected to compete in the National All Schools Knock Out competition on Monday the 6th Dec in Melbourne. The following 7 boys will compete in that event: Harrison Dobb, Seb Wileman, Andrew Morbey, Jock Creer, Mitch Stewart, Andrew Selosse & Nicholas Gittoes. We wish them all the best.

This year forms a great base to work towards developing Athletics at Shore into the future.
